Removing
1. We install the car on a viewing hole or overpass (see "Vehicle preparation for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the brake drum (see "Rear wheel brake pads - replacement").
3. Using a jack, we additionally raise the rear axle from the side of the axle shaft to be replaced to prevent oil from leaking out of the beam.
4. We turn the axle shaft until the holes of large diameter in its flange coincide with the two nuts for fastening the brake shield.
5. socket wrench by 17 mm with an extension, unscrew the nuts and remove the spring washers.
Loosen the remaining two nuts in the same way.
6. It is more convenient to remove the axle shaft with a special puller, but if it is not available, you can use the removed wheel. We fix it with two bolts with the outer side to the axle shaft flange, while we do not completely wrap the bolts to ensure the action of the wheel inertia force. With a sharp movement towards ourselves, we pull out the axle shaft bearing from the flange of the rear axle beam.
7. Having unscrewed the bolts, remove the wheel and take out the axle shaft. There is a rubber sealing ring between the beam flange and the brake shield, do not lose it.
8. With sliding pliers or other suitable tool, we remove the axle shaft seal from the hole in the beam flange.
Installation
1. Before installing a new oil seal, apply grease to its seating surface and working edge.
2. Install the gland in the hole of the beam flange (spring inside the beam) and with light blows of a hammer through a sleeve of a suitable diameter, we press it in.
3. We install the axle shaft and other parts in the reverse order of their removal. At the same time, be careful not to damage the oil seal with the splined end of the axle shaft.
4. Check the oil level in the rear axle, add oil if necessary (see "Rear axle - checking the level and changing the oil").
