VAZ-2105 "Zhiguli"
VAZ-2105 is a Soviet car of small classification of group III (B-segment according to European classification), produced at the AvtoVAZ plant from 1979 to 2010. It has rear-wheel drive with a front-mounted engine, a sedan-type body. Other names for the car are "Zhiguli", "Classic", Lada 2105, and was popularly called "five". A "luxury" sedan was later created on the basis of this car VAZ-2107. The model with a station wagon body is called VAZ-2104. Over the 30-year production period, about 2.9 million cars were produced.
History of the model
"Pyaterka" is the second generation "kopecks", which underwent serious modernization. The technology of manufacturing the frame and body remained the same, but the appearance completely changed, becoming more angular with square block headlights with a hydrocorrector and headlight cleaner. All rear lights were combined under a single lampshade. Chrome elements were replaced with black ones made of plastic.
Technical improvements were also significant, which were mainly aimed at reducing the cost of conveyor assembly. The engine was first equipped with a toothed timing belt instead of a chain. The interior also had many new features - blowing air for the side door windows (the "windows" were removed from these windows), electric heating of the rear window, adjustment of the outside mirrors from the interior, leatherette seat upholstery, height-adjustable headrests of the front seats.
In 1983, the car received the USSR State Quality Mark. Before the appearance VAZ-2108 the car was considered the most advanced in the USSR in terms of design. Until the end of its production, demand for it was determined by its low price. After "Oki" it was the cheapest domestic car. The car recycling program introduced in Russia spurred demand for the "five". However, after its end, demand fell sharply.
Despite its popularity, availability of spare parts in any town and repairability in garage conditions, production was stopped in 2010. The car has hardly changed in 30 years and is morally very outdated. The appearance has never changed at all, and the interior has only been adjusted to meet Russian standards. In terms of passive safety, the car was very far from modern requirements. It was replaced by the front-wheel drive Lada Granta.
