Checking the level and topping up the brake fluid (VAZ-2115)

            0

You will need: brake fluid, a clean rag.

Useful tips. Brake fluid type - "Tom" or "Rosa" of class not lower than DOT-4.

When the brake fluid level in the reservoir drops below the "MIN" mark, the red indicator light in the instrument cluster lights up. We recommend checking the level before each trip and, if necessary, adding fluid to the reservoir without waiting for the indicator light to light up: it is better to do this operation in advance. If you have to add brake fluid to the reservoir quite often, immediately contact a specialist or fix the problem yourself (see section "Brake system").

At replacing brake fluid in the system, remember or write down the brand of liquid that was poured in order to use the same brand when topping up. When installing the tank cap with the sensor, the liquid level in the tank slightly increases due to the volume of the sensor float.

The reservoir is installed on the brake master cylinder on the left side of the engine compartment near the front shield.

Warning: Take precautions when working with brake fluid: it is toxic.

Helpful tips. In order to avoid unexpected expenses in the future for repairing the brake system, or even the entire car, replace the brake fluid with fresh fluid in a timely manner. It is very hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air, which, in addition to causing corrosion of brake system parts, increases the boiling point of the fluid itself, which can lead to brake failure during frequent intensive braking.

Do not reuse the fluid drained from the system: it is contaminated, saturated with air and moisture. If brake fluid gets on wires, plastic or painted body parts, it can cause damage to them. Therefore, always put clean rags under when pouring. If liquid gets on these parts, wipe them off immediately with a clean rag.

1. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. It should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the reservoir body.

2. If the fluid level is below the "MIN" mark, unscrew the tank cap..

3. …and add brake fluid to the "MAX" mark. Then tighten the reservoir cap.

4. Check the operation of the brake fluid level drop sensor installed in the reservoir cap. To do this, turn on the ignition, then press the button on the reservoir cap. The emergency brake system warning light should light up in the instrument cluster. If the light does not light up, the sensor is most likely faulty.
