We replace the rear wheel slave cylinder if we detect a brake fluid leak or if the pistons are jammed.
To complete the work you will need an assistant and a special key by 10 mm for brake pipes, transparent vinyl tube of suitable diameter, container for draining brake fluid, fresh brake fluid (see "Operating fluids").
Removal
1. Prepare the vehicle for operations (see "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the brake drum (see "Rear wheel brake pads - replacement").
3. Clean the bolts of the working cylinder and the brake pipe nipple from dirt. Apply penetrating lubricant with a rust converter to them.
4. Using a special 10mm wrench for brake pipes, unscrew the pipe nipple.
Attention! If the nipple is "stuck" to the tube and you can't unscrew it, try (after completing step 6) unscrew the cylinder, holding the nipple with a special 70 mm key for brake pipes. When removing the cylinder in this way, the brake pipe must be replaced.
5. To reduce the loss of brake fluid, put a protective cap on the end of the tube (from the brake cylinder bleed nipple).
6. With a socket wrench by 10 mm we unscrew the two bolts securing the working cylinder and remove it.
7. By turning the cylinder relative to the hole in the brake shield, we remove the cylinder stops from engagement with the brake pads.

8. Remove the rear wheel slave cylinder from the brake shield.
Installation
1. Install the working cylinder in reverse order.
2. Before installing a new cylinder, use sliding pliers to push its pistons in until they stop.
Caution! When installing the cylinder stops into the pads, do not damage the rubber protective boots of the cylinder.
3. Before securing the cylinder with bolts to the brake shield, screw the tube fitting into the cylinder by hand.
4. Finally, tighten the fitting.
5. After installing the brake drum, bleed the brake hydraulic drive from the side of the replaced cylinder (see "Hydraulic brake drive - bleeding and replacing brake fluid").
