We remove the front brake caliper to replace it, replace the working cylinder or brake disc.
The work is shown on the example of the brake mechanism of the right wheel.
To carry out the work, you will need an assistant, as well as a special wrench for 10 mm for brake pipes, a transparent vinyl pipe of a suitable diameter, a container for draining brake fluid, fresh brake fluid (see "Operating fluids").
Removing
1. We prepare the car for operations (see "Vehicle preparation for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the front wheel (see "Wheel - replacement").
3. Remove the brake pads of the front wheel (see "Front wheel brake pads - replacement").
4. Disconnect the front wheel brake hose from the caliper (see "Front wheel brake hose - replacement").
5. With a chisel, we bend the locking plate of the lower caliper mounting bolt (the lower mounting bolt differs from the upper mounting bolt by the presence of a spherical part).
6. Using a 17 mm socket wrench with an extension, unscrew the bolt of the lower caliper mounting.
7. Remove the bolt together with the lock plate.
8. Similarly, we turn off the upper mounting bolt and remove the caliper assembly with the working cylinders.
The slave cylinder must be replaced if the piston is stuck or if brake fluid leaks through the O-ring.
9. We fix the caliper in a vice.
10. With a 10 mm wrench, we unscrew the two fittings for fastening the connecting tube of the working cylinders.
11. Pick up the phone.
12. With a punch, press the spring-loaded latch, while knocking the cylinder out of the caliper along the guides.
Installation
1. We install the cylinder and caliper in the reverse order.
Attention! The brake cylinders of the brake mechanisms of the front wheels are not interchangeable. Do not mix them up during installation.
2. Before installing a new cylinder, press the latch and install the cylinder in the guide grooves of the caliper.
Attention! If it is difficult to install a new cylinder into the caliper, blunt the leading edge of the installation guide of the cylinder with a file.
3. We press in the cylinder until the lock is activated.
4. Replace copper sealing washers with new ones (see "Front wheel brake hose - replacement").
5. After installing the caliper and connecting the brake hose, we pump the hydraulic drive from the side of the replaced cylinder (see "Hydraulic brakes - pumping and replacing brake fluid").
Attention! Brake discs are replaced in pairs on both sides of the car. Periodically check the condition of the disks (see "Brake system - check of technical condition") and replace them if they are not worn to a thickness of less than 9.5 mm, if there is increased lateral runout, or if there are deep scratches on the working surface.
Removing
1. Remove the caliper (see above), without disconnecting the brake hose.
You can remove the caliper without removing the pads. To do this, pressing with sliding pliers through the pads, we alternately sink the pistons into the cylinders.
2. Having unscrewed the caliper mounting bolts, remove it from the brake disc.
3. In order for the caliper not to hang on the brake hose, we tie it to the upper suspension arm, securing it with wire or rope.
4. 7 mm socket wrench (12 mm on early production cars) unscrew the two guide pins.
5. Remove the distance ring.
6. Remove the brake disc.
Installation
1. Install the removed parts in reverse order.
2. Similarly, we disassemble the brake mechanism from the opposite side.
