Removing
1. We install the car on a viewing hole or overpass (see "Vehicle preparation for maintenance and repair").
2. On a car with an injection system, remove the adsorber (see "Adsorber - purge valve check, removal and installation").
3. Unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the intermediate shaft of the steering mechanism to the gearbox shaft and remove the bolt (see "Steering shaft - removal and installation").
4. Disconnect the tie rods from the bipod of the steering gear (see "Tie rods - replacement").
5. Using a 19 mm socket wrench, unscrew the three nuts securing the gearbox to the left side member of the car, holding the bolts from turning with a wrench of the same size. Holding the gearbox, remove the bolts.
6. We take out the gearbox shaft from the universal joint yoke of the intermediate shaft.
7. We turn the bipod of the gearbox until it stops in eye A of the gearbox housing. This will make it easier to remove the gearbox.
8. Turning, take out the gearbox up.
Installation
1. Having installed the steering wheel in the direction of rectilinear movement, through the hole in the partition of the engine compartment, insert the gearbox shaft into the yoke of the universal joint of the intermediate shaft, orienting the bipod of the gearbox (see point 4 below).
2. We fix the gearbox with bolts to the side member of the body.
3. If there are difficulties in connecting the shafts, then without connecting them, we fix the gearbox on the side member. Removing the steering wheel (see "Steering wheel - removal and installation"), remove the steering gear shaft and install it by putting the eye of the cardan joint of the intermediate shaft on the splines of the gearbox shaft (see "Steering shaft - removal and installation").
4. Orient the bipod of the steering mechanism so that the line drawn through the centers of the bipod holes is at a distance of 27.5 mm from the mounting plane of the gearbox (the middle position of the gear roller). Set the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.
5. Connect the tie rods to the bipod.
6. After installing a new steering gearbox, fill in oil in its crankcase (see "Steering Gearbox - Checking the Oil Level").
