1. Place the car on a horizontal, level surface. The wheels should be aligned in the direction of straight-line movement (see "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair").
2. Wipe the steering gear housing cover with a rag.
3. Using a slotted screwdriver, pry up and remove the protective cap from the adjusting screw.
4. Using a 19 mm wrench, loosen the adjusting screw nut.
5. The assistant vigorously turns the steering wheel left and right, while simultaneously turning the adjusting screw with a slotted screwdriver, we achieve a decrease in free play to the permissible limit or a decrease in the force on the steering wheel. When turning the screw clockwise, the clearance in the engagement decreases, counterclockwise - increases.
6. Hold the adjusting screw with a screwdriver and tighten the adjusting screw nut. Put on the protective cap.
7. Since the wear of the gearbox worm is greater in the area of the middle position of the steering wheel, we check the ease of turning at the extreme positions of the wheels. If necessary, we adjust the engagement in one of these positions.
