Removal and installation the steering gear (VAZ-21061)

We press out the pins of the ball joints of the rods from the steering gear pitman arm. We disconnect the steering shaft from the gearbox (see Removal and installation the steering shaft).



Using two 17 mm wrenches, unscrew the three nuts securing the steering gear to the left side member of the body...



...and we take it out downwards together with the mounting bolts and adjusting washers.

When installing the steering gear, put the adjusting washers back in place. Before finally tightening the crankcase mounting bolts, vigorously turn the steering wheel several times in both directions to self-install the crankcase.
