Remove the distributor cap.

It is more convenient to adjust the gap on a distributor removed from the engine, but after this you will have to reset the ignition timing.
To check the clearance on the distributor, not removed from the engine, turn the crankshaft to a position in which the stop of the movable contact is at the top of the cam shaft (contact gap maximum).

We check the gap with a feeler gauge (0.35–0.45 mm).
If it differs from what is required, then to adjust it…

…we loosen the screw securing the contact group with a screwdriver…

…and the adjusting screw. For convenience, the runner can be removed (see Replacing the distributor rotor).
Caution! When loosening and tightening the screws of the contact group, do not press them too hard, as this may damage the bearing of the breaker's movable plate.
By moving the contact group plate, we set the required gap and tighten the adjusting screw. Once again, having made sure that the gap is correct, we tighten the contact group fastening screw.
