The location of the rods and adjusting screws on the carburetor (air filter removed): 1 - intermediate thrust of the throttle valve drive; 2 - quality screw (composition) mixtures; 3 - air damper drive rod; 4 - mixture quantity screw; 5 - thrust drive throttle.
Air damper actuator adjustment
If the engine does not develop full power and does not have sufficient throttle response, then this may be due to incomplete opening of the air or throttle valves of the carburetor.
One of the reasons for the difficult start of the engine may be the incomplete closing of the air damper.
You will need: Key «for 8».
Remove the air filter before starting work (see subsection 3.9).
Pull out the choke control on the instrument panel to the stop. Wherein...
...the air damper must close completely.
Push the choke control in completely. In this case, the air damper should open completely. It can be controlled...
... along the ball of the lever lock, which should fall into the hole on the lever. If the damper does not open or close completely, its drive must be adjusted.
To adjust, loosen the bolt that secures the linkage to the choke lever.
Rotate the choke lever until it is fully open.
Fully pull the rod out of the shell and tighten the bolt that secures the rod to the choke lever (make sure that the rod does not bend).
Pull out the choke lever until it stops (on the dashboard). If the air damper is not completely closed, unscrew the bolt securing the thrust shell.
By moving the shell, achieve complete closure of the damper. Tighten the shell fixing bolt. After that, check again and, if necessary, adjust the full opening of the air damper using the rod.
Throttle actuator adjustment
You will need: Keys «for 8» and «at 13» (two), screwdriver.
Remove the air filter before starting work (see subsection 3.9).
Drive adjustment is performed for the throttle valve of the first chamber of the carburetor. The throttle valve drive of the second chamber is carried out from the throttle valve lever of the first chamber.
Press all the way down on the accelerator pedal. In this case, the throttle valves should be fully open (the throttle lever should move towards the front of the car until it stops).
Check if the dampers are fully open. To do this, press the tip of the intermediate rod. If it can be moved further, then the actuator needs to be adjusted.
Release the accelerator pedal until the dampers are fully closed. The throttle lever should turn, moving the intermediate rod to the stop in the opposite direction. If this does not happen, the drive must be adjusted.
To adjust, loosen one of the adjusting nuts. Tighten the other nut until the damper opens and closes completely
Please note that when nut 1 is tightened, the damper opens, and nut 2 closes. Then tighten the nut that was loose.
If the length of the rod is not enough to adjust the position of the throttle valves (in this case, the throttle valve does not close completely)...
...loosen the lock nuts on the tie rod ends...
... remove the rod end from the intermediate drive lever...
...fasten the tip of the rod shell in the bracket approximately in the middle...
...when unscrewing or wrapping the ends, change the length of the intermediate rod so that...
...it could be connected without moving the levers. Secure the tips with locknuts. After that, check again and, if necessary, adjust the full throttle opening using the rod.
Engine idle adjustment
You will need: Screwdriver, pliers.
Idle speed adjustment is performed with the air filter installed (The filters have been removed for illustration purposes) on a warm engine (coolant temperature 90-95°С), with adjusted clearances in the valve drive and correctly set ignition timing. The air damper must be fully open.
Since the adjustment of the idle speed and carbon monoxide content (SO) in exhaust gases are carried out jointly, and a gas analyzer is needed to determine the CO content, it is recommended to carry out these operations in special workshops.
When the CO content is adjusted, the crankshaft speed changes somewhat, and accordingly, when the crankshaft speed is adjusted, the CO content changes.
Start the engine. By turning the mixture amount screw, set the engine speed to 820-900 min-1. Then check the carbon monoxide content (SO) in exhaust gases.
The CO content should be in the range of 0.5-1.5%. To adjust the CO content, remove the cap that protects the quality screw (composition) mixtures.
By turning the quality screw, achieve the required CO content in the exhaust gases. Once again, set the idle speed with the mixture amount screw. If necessary, successively repeat the adjustments and ensure that the idling speed and the CO content are within the limits.
