Replacing the catalytic converter (VAZ-2115)

Operating a car on leaded gasoline and interruptions in the ignition system may cause the neutralizer to fail. A faulty neutralizer may be one of the reasons for a sharp increase in CO content in exhaust gases. For a more accurate check of the neutralizer's performance, contact a specialized workshop.

Warning! During operation, the catalytic converter heats up to a very high temperature (over 600°C), so it will cool down more slowly than other components of the exhaust system.

You will need two 13 mm keys.

1. Unscrew the two nuts securing the resonator pipe to the neutralizer, remove the spring washers and take out the bolts.



2. Unscrew the two bolts securing the neutralizer to the exhaust pipe…

3. …and, holding the neutralizer, remove the bolts with springs. Remove the neutralizer from the car.





4. Install the new neutralizer in the reverse order of removal. Replace broken or sagging springs.
