Brake fluid
To check and, if necessary, add brake fluid to the reservoirs, no preliminary preparation is necessary. Requires only the liquid itself «Neva». Whether there is enough fluid in the system or not, the red indicator light will tell. The light will turn on as soon as the liquid level drops below the allowable level. However, waiting for the indicator light to come on does not make sense, since at this moment you can be on the road, and the brake fluid is in the garage.
To avoid surprises, it is advisable to check the level in the tanks of the main brake cylinders as often as possible. You will not lose much time to unscrew the cap and make sure that there is enough liquid. Add liquid should be in the case when the level is below the beginning of the necks of the tanks.
Note! A decrease in the fluid level in the reservoir of the main brake cylinder and the exposure of the opening of the tube connecting the reservoir to the main brake cylinder lead to air entering the system and failure of the brakes.
Coolant
Earlier we noted that modern cars, including VAZ cars, are all-weather. Naturally, the cooling system should provide the engine with optimal operation at high and low temperatures. One of the important elements of the cooling system is the coolant used in the system.
To ensure the efficient and reliable operation of a modern engine, the coolant must have a number of properties: not freeze at temperatures up to minus 40 - minus 60°C; do not foam when circulating in the system; have lubricating properties that provide anti-corrosion treatment of 5-6 different types of metals, do not cause the destruction of rubber and plastic seals and sealing rings; do not form scale.
All of the above properties are possessed by the Tosol A-40 liquid, which is used in the cooling systems of VAZ car engines. Tosol A concentrated liquid is sold in retail, and in order to prepare a coolant with a given frost resistance from it, Tosol A must be diluted with water, preferably distilled or boiled, until a certain density is reached (tab. 1).
The correctness of filling the cooling system is checked by the label «min» on the expansion tank. Cold level (at 20°С) must be 3 cm above the mark «min».
The cooling system of VAZ cars is sealed, and the liquid can only decrease as a result of depressurization of the system: either the liquid escapes through leaks in the clamps and the radiator cap (then its smudges are visible), or found its way inside the engine. Both in the first and in the second cases urgent measures are needed.
Before draining the coolant, prepare 13 and 17 mm wrenches, a screwdriver, two fluid containers and wipes. Two vessels are necessary because liquid is drained simultaneously from two taps located: one in the lower radiator tank, the other on the cylinder block from the side of the steering gear housing. When unscrewing the plug on the lower radiator tank, use the second 17 mm wrench to keep the plug fitting from turning. After draining all the liquid, the faucets must be installed in their place.
As soon as the liquid is drained, by all means take advantage of the opportunity presented and flush the system. To do this, pour 9 liters of clean water into the radiator. If the car has been in operation for more than 2 years, there is probably scale in the system and it should be removed, for which add a descaler to the filled water. Close the radiator and expansion tank with caps and let the engine run for 4-5 minutes. Then drain the water and repeat the operation.
Pour 9.6 liters of fresh or previously drained Antifreeze into the flushed cooling system, and after 500-1000 km of run, check its level.
Glass washer fluid
Motorists know well how unpleasant it is to drive in wet weather, when the windshield is covered with dirt from the wheels of the car in front. Visibility worsens even more when the temperature outside is close to minus.
For cleaning the windshield on cars «Zhiguli» there is a reliable system that works especially efficiently if filled with NIIS-4 washer fluid. It is transparent colorless (or slightly yellowish) liquid with a freezing point of minus 40°C.
In summer, 70% of pure water can be added to this liquid, and at ambient temperatures down to minus 10°C, 50% of water can be added. At lower temperatures, NIIS-4 should not be diluted.
