If the sensor gives incorrect data on the coolant temperature, it is necessary to check it on a warmed-up engine. To do this, with the ignition on, remove the wire tip from the sensor and short it to ground. If the temperature gauge arrow on the instrument panel deviates to the right as far as it will go, the sensor is faulty. If the arrow does not move, this indicates a break in the circuit.
Removal
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery (see "Battery - Removal and Installation").
2. Drain the coolant from the cylinder block (see "Coolant - Checking Level and Replacing").
3. Move the protective cap and disconnect the wire tip from the sensor.
4. With a socket wrench on 21 mm using a deep socket or spark plug wrench, unscrew the sensor from the cylinder head.
The sensor has a tapered thread, so no additional seal is required.
Installation
1. Install the coolant temperature gauge sensor in the reverse order.
2. Add coolant to the radiator (see "Coolant - Checking Level and Replacing").
