Removal
1. Prepare the vehicle for operations (see "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair").
2. Use a rag to clean off any dirt and wash the outer surface of the fuel pump with white spirit or engine cleaner.
3. Disconnect the fuel system hoses from the pump (see "Fuel pump - removal and installation").
4. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the six screws securing the upper housing to the lower housing and remove the upper housing with the pump cover.
5. Press on the plate of the diaphragm unit and, turning the rod by 90°, remove it from engagement with the balancer fork. Remove the rod with the diaphragm unit from the housing hole and remove the spring.
Installation
1. Before installation, check the diaphragms for breaks, cracks, and delamination. If necessary, replace the entire assembly or replace the diaphragms. To do this, unscrew the nut on the rod with a wrench on 8 mm, remove the diaphragm plate and spacer. Assemble the diaphragm assembly, precisely aligning the mounting holes in the diaphragms. Tighten the rod nut.
Note: When tightening the diaphragm assembly nut, to avoid displacement of the diaphragm holes, insert two screws into diametrically opposite diaphragm holes and squeeze the diaphragm plates by hand.
2. Installation of all removed parts is performed in reverse order.
