Starter 35.3708
1. Loosen the nut on the lower contact bolt of the traction relay and disconnect the stator winding terminal from it. Loosen the nuts securing the traction relay and remove it.
2. Loosen the screws and remove the protective cover 8 (see Fig. Starter parts 35.3708). Remove lock washer 9, unscrew tie bolts 12 and disconnect housing 11 with cover 5 from cover 1 with anchor 13. Remove plug 2 from the front cover.
3. Loosen the screws securing the stator winding terminals to the brush holders and detach the housing from cover 5. Remove springs 7 and brushes 6.

4. Unpin and remove the axle of the starter drive lever 3 from the cover. Remove the lever and the anchor with the drive from the cover, and then disconnect the lever from the drive.
5. To remove the drive from the anchor, remove the retaining ring from under the stop ring 16.
6. The drive is disassembled after removing the lock washer from the coupling hub.
7. If the traction relay is made in a disassemblable design, i.e. the relay parts are not crimped into its housing, then to disassemble it, unscrew the nuts of the tie bolts and unsolder the winding terminals from the "50" plug and from the tip secured to the lower contact bolt of the traction relay.
8. After disassembling, blow out the parts with compressed air and wipe them dry.
Starter ST-221
1. The peculiarities of its disassembly are related to the different design of the manifold and rear cover.
2. After removing the traction relay, loosen the screw securing the protective clamping tape 5 (see Fig. Rear part of the starter ST-221) on cover 6 from the manifold side and remove the tape with the gasket.
3. Unscrew the screws securing the brush terminals and stator winding leads to the brush holders and remove the brushes 8.
4. Unscrew the nuts of the tie rods and detach the housing 11 with cover 6 from the front cover with the anchor. Unscrew the tie rods from the front cover and remove the rubber plug of the lever from it. Detach cover 6 from the housing.
5. Further disassembly of the ST-221 starter is similar to disassembly of the 35.3708 starter.
