Disassembly
Unscrew the nut on the lower contact bolt of the traction relay and disconnect the stator winding output from it. Unscrew the nuts securing the traction relay and remove it. Loosen the screw that secures the clamping protective tape on the cover 10 (rice. 163) from the side of the collector and remove the tape 9 with the gasket. Unscrew the screws securing the brush leads and remove the latter. At the starter 35.3708, the lock washer is removed from the rear end of the shaft.
Unscrew the nuts of the tie rods 15, unscrew the studs and remove the cover 1 from the drive side together with the armature 16. Disconnect the cover 10 from the manifold side from the body. Remove the rubber plug 2 of the lever from the cover 1, unpin and remove the axle of the lever 3 of the starter drive, remove the lever and the anchor from the cover.
To unmoor the drive, remove the retaining ring from under the restrictive ring 1 (see fig. 161). The drive is disassembled after removing the retaining ring from the coupling hub. After disassembly, the parts are blown with compressed air and wiped.
Assembly
Before assembly, the screw splines of the armature shaft and the overrunning clutch hubs, the bushings of both covers and the gear are lubricated with engine oil, and the driving ring of the drive is lubricated with Litol-24 grease.
Before starting the assembly, check the axial free play of the armature shaft by first assembling the covers and the anchor together and tightening the nuts of the tie rods. In this case, the anchor can be without a drive, and the cover 7 (see fig. 161) without a lever. The axial play of the shaft should be in the range of 0.07-0.7 mm. Backlash measurement is achieved by selecting the number and thickness of shims 2. For starter 35.3708, shims are located on both sides of cover 13 on the collector side, and the shaft play should be no more than 0.5 mm.
Having picked up the adjusting washers, proceed to the assembly, which is performed in the reverse order of disassembly. After assembly, the starter is checked on the stand.
