We replace the oil seal if we detect oil contamination of the front part of the engine due to oil splashing from the crankshaft pulley.
Removal
1. Place the vehicle on an inspection pit or overpass (see "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair") and engage first gear.
2. Remove the engine mudguard (see "Mudguard - Removal and Installation").
3. Remove the generator drive belt (see "Generator Drive Belt - Tension Adjustment and Replacement").
4. With a special key by 38 mm we unscrew the crankshaft pulley mounting nut.
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
6. Using a screwdriver, pry up the crankshaft oil seal and remove it from the timing cover.
Installation
1. Lubricate the working edge of the new seal with engine oil and press it into the cover through a mandrel (an old seal or a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter can be used as a mandrel).
2. Installation of all removed parts is performed in reverse order.
3. Adjust the tension of the generator drive belt (see "Generator Drive Belt - Tension Adjustment and Replacement").
