1. Remove the rear door trim (see "Removal and installation the rear door trim".
2. Disconnect the ground wires of the additional brake light and the rear window wiper motor (see "Removal and installation the tailgate lock")
3. Disconnect the windshield wiper wiring connector from the harness connector and remove the wires from the connector. To do this, press the tabs on the wire tips with a thin screwdriver, having previously marked them.

4. Similarly, disconnect the contact connector of the additional brake light and remove the wire from the connector.
5. Remove the four nuts securing the tailgate hinges to the roof panel (see "Removal and installation tailgate hinges").
Helpful Hint: If you are removing the tailgate for purposes other than replacement, we recommend tying a length of rope to the wiring for the additional brake light and the windshield wiper motor in the tailgate. Once the wires are removed, untie the rope and leave it inside the tailgate. This will make it easier to route the wiring harness to the additional brake light when reinstalling the tailgate.
6. While holding the door, remove the wiring harness of the additional brake light and the rear window wiper motor from the tailgate panel…
