1. Disconnect the wire from the "–" terminal of the battery.
2. From underneath the vehicle, loosen the lock nut and adjusting nut of the cable equalizer.

3. Remove the equalizer from the lever rod.

4. Then remove the protective cover.

Note.
Replace a torn or loose protective cover.
5. Remove the floor tunnel lining (see "Removal and installation the floor tunnel lining").
6. Unscrew the four mounting bolts and remove the lever.

7. Remove the retaining ring, take out the axle and disconnect the rod from the lever.

Note: The parking brake lever is a non-separable design. Only the pawl spring can be replaced.
8. Unscrew the button and remove the pawl spring. Do this carefully, as the button is under the force of the compressed spring.

9. Install the lever in the reverse order of removal.
10. Adjust the parking brake (see "Checking and adjusting the parking brake drive").
