Helpful advice. If the cable removed from the car moves heavily in the shell, lubricate it; pour gear or engine oil into the shell until it starts to flow out of the opposite end of the shell. During the pouring process, periodically move the cable in the sheath.
Replace the cable with the following faults:
- loose ends of the cable;
- rope threads began to break;
- the cable moves hard in the sheath even after it has been lubricated.
You will need: keys «at 12», «at 13», screwdriver, pliers.
1. Loosen the equalizer locknut.
2. Loosen the cable equalizer adjusting nut to loosen the parking brake cables.
3. Hang the rear of the car, remove the brake drum and rear brake shoe (see «Replacing the rear brake pads»).
4. Disconnect the tip of the parking brake cable from the drive lever.
5. Turn away a fastening nut and remove the cable holder on a beam of a back suspension bracket.
6. Remove the cable sheath bushing from the hole in the brake shield.
7. Pass the tip of the cable through the hole in the brake shield.
8. Take out a cable from all holders on a body.
9. Disconnect the cable end from the cable equalizer.
10. Push the end of the cable out of the bracket and remove the cable.
11. Install a new cable in the reverse order of removal.
12. Adjust parking brake (see «Checking and adjusting the parking brake drive»).
Helpful advice. Some drivers, in an effort to wear out the parking brake cable less, try to use it less often. Such «saving» leads to the opposite result - the cable, rarely moving in the shell, gradually loses its mobility and eventually jams and breaks. Use the parking brake whenever necessary.
