Disassembling the hinge practically does not make sense. This work is time-consuming, and with a torn cover, the dirt that got into the hinge has already rendered the hinge parts unusable. You cannot replace the hinge parts individually, so the best solution is to replace the complete hinge and its dust cover. The appearance of traces of grease on the hinge indicates that the cover is torn.
If during operation traces of oil leakage were noticed at the points of connection of the front wheel drive to the gearbox, replace the inner joint seal (see «Replacing gearbox seals» in subsection «Transmission»).
1. Remove the front wheel drive from the car (see «Removal and installation of front wheel drives» in subsection «Front wheel drives»).
2. To replace the inner CV joint, clamp the drive shaft in a vise, remove the outer and inner collars of the inner joint.
3. Slide the dust cover over the shaft and turn it inside out.
4. Using a drift, knock the inner pivot off the shaft by applying force to the pivot cage.
5. Note that there is a plastic plug at the inner end of the drive shaft.
6. Check up presence of greasing in a new hinge. It should contain 80 cm3 SHRUS-4 lubricants. If it seems to you that there is not enough lubrication, add - extra lubrication will not hurt.
7. When installing the hinge, drive it with gentle blows of a hammer through a wooden spacer along the outer end of the shank along its axis until the hinge is fixed on the shaft. When installing the hinge, make sure that dirt does not get into it.
8. Place the dust cover on the hinge body and press the edge of the boot with a screwdriver to straighten the boot with air (equalize the pressure inside and outside the case).
9. When installing the inner hinge boot, keep the dimension from the end of the shank to the small edge of the mudguard equal to 210 mm, and carefully tighten the clamps using special pliers.
10. For replacement of the external hinge remove its external and internal collars.
11. Slide the dust cover over the shaft and turn it inside out.
12. Using a drift, knock the outer CV joint off the shaft, applying force to the hinge cage.
13. Install the outer hinge in the same way as the inner hinge. The difference lies in the fact that 40 cm must be laid in the hinge3 SHRUS-4 lubricants and it is not necessary to maintain the size when installing the dirt cover.
