Welded from sheet steel rear axle beam cast iron is fixed with bolts gearbox housing, which houses the main gear and differential.
Main gear - hypoid, pinion axis offset downwards, gear ratio 3.9; 4.1 or 4.3 (depending on the vehicle modification). The gear ratio marking is applied to the driven gear.
Differential - gear, bevel, two-satellite. The differential housing together with the driven gear of the main transmission attached to it with bolts is installed in the crankcase on two tapered roller bearings. Adjustment of the bearings and the axial position of the gear is carried out by two adjusting ring nuts with external thread, screwed into the detachable bearing beds.
Leading gear, manufactured as one piece with the tailstock, it is also installed in the crankcase on two
tapered roller bearings. Its axial position is determined by the thickness of the adjusting ring placed between the gear and the inner bearing. A flange is mounted on the splined end of the shank, bolted to the flange fork of the rear universal joint. Flange is attached to the tailstock with a nut, which simultaneously adjusts the tailstock bearings. A spacer sleeve is installed between the inner rings of the bearings, which is deformed when the nut is tightened, providing a preliminary tension in the bearings.
Half shafts with their splined ends they enter the holes of the differential axle gears. The outer ends of the axle shafts rest on ball bearings installed in the bores of the rear axle beam flanges. The axle shafts are secured against axial displacement relative to the bearings by pressed-on locking rings. There are flanges at the ends of the axle shafts to which the rear wheels of the vehicle are bolted. Reducer the rear axle is lubricated with transmission oil, poured into the axle beam in a volume of 1.3 liters. To replace the oil, the beam has filler and drain holes, closed with plugs with self-sealing conical threads.
The axle bearings are equipped with rubberized sealing washers and filled with plastic grease for the entire service life. Oil leakage from the rear axle is prevented by seals installed on the ends of the axle shafts and the pinion shank.
To prevent the air pressure inside the bridge from increasing during operating heating of the gearbox, which could lead to oil leakage through the seals, a breather is installed on the beam (safety valve).
