We remove the rear axle to replace it or carry out body work.
An assistant will be needed to complete the job.
Removal
1. Place the vehicle on an inspection pit or overpass (see "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair").

2. Drain the oil from the rear axle (see "Rear Axle - Checking Oil Level and Changing Oil").
3. We hang up the rear part of the car (see "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair") and remove the rear wheels (see "Wheel - replacement").
4. Disconnect the cardan shaft from the flange of the main gear pinion (see "Cardan transmission - removal and installation").
5. Place a jack under the rear axle gearbox (rhombic or hydraulic), and raise the bridge a little.
6. Disconnect the pressure regulator drive rod from the bracket on the rear axle beam (see "Rear suspension spring - replacement").
7. Remove the brake hydraulic hose (see "Rear Brake Hose - Replacement").
8. Disconnect the shock absorbers from the rear axle brackets (see "Rear shock absorber - replacement").
9. Lower the rear axle with a jack, release the springs and remove them together with the upper and lower insulating gaskets (see "Rear suspension spring - replacement").
10. Remove the rear parking brake cable guide from the front cable end and disconnect it from the cable. Remove the cable sheath ends from the holes in the body brackets. Remove the two rear cable mounting brackets to the body (see Fig. "Parking brake system - disassembly and assembly").
11. Disconnect the crossbar from the rear axle bracket (see "Rear suspension rods - replacement").
12. Disconnect the upper and lower longitudinal rods from the rear axle brackets (see "Rear suspension rods - replacement"), together we remove the bridge from the jack.
Installation
1. Install the rear axle in reverse order.
Caution: Before connecting the lower longitudinal reaction rods to the rear axle brackets, position the rear parking brake drive cable above the rods.
2. Fill the rear axle with oil (see "Rear Axle - Checking Oil Level and Changing Oil").
3. Bleed the hydraulic drive of the rear wheel brakes (see "Hydraulic brake drive - bleeding and replacing brake fluid") and adjust the parking brake (see "Parking brake - adjustment").
