Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence

Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence

The cylinder head is secured with 11 bolts instead of ten, as on the VAZ-2105 engine. The first ten bolts are tightened in the same way as on the VAZ-2105 engine, and the 11th is tightened last with a torque of 31.36–39.1 N·m (3.2–4.0 kgf·m).

At removal cylinder heads on a car, it is necessary to disconnect the camshaft chain drive in the following order:

1. Turn the crankshaft until the mark on the crankshaft pulley aligns with the long mark on the camshaft drive cover, and the mark on the camshaft sprocket aligns with the mark on the bearing housing (see subsection 11.1.2).

2. Loosen the cap nut 6 (see Fig. Removal the chain tensioner and guide) chain tensioner, press the tensioner rod with a mounting blade and secure it with a cap nut.

3. Remove the camshaft sprocket and bearing housing together with the camshaft.

At installation the cylinder heads must be connected to the camshaft chain drive in the following order:

1. Install the sprocket on the camshaft assembled with the bearing housing and turn the shaft to a position where the mark on the sprocket is opposite the mark on the bearing housing.

2. Remove the sprocket and, without changing the position of the shaft, install the bearing housing on the cylinder head and secure it by tightening the nuts in the sequence shown in the figure.

3. Place the chain on the camshaft sprocket, secure it to the shaft and check that the marks on the sprocket and the camshaft bearing housing match (see Fig. subsection 11.1.2), as well as on the pulley and cover of the camshaft drive.

4. Place the chain on the sprocket and install it on the camshaft without completely tightening the mounting bolt.

5. Loosen the cap nut 6 (see Fig. Removal the chain tensioner and guide) chain tensioner, turn the crankshaft two revolutions and check the alignment of the timing marks; if the marks match, tighten the tensioner cap nut, the sprocket mounting bolt and bend the sprocket bolt lock washer, and if the marks do not match, repeat the sprocket installation.
