Attention! We replace the pads as a set on both sides of the car.
Periodically check the condition of the brake pads (see "Brake system - check of technical condition") and replace them without allowing wear of the linings to a thickness of less than 1.5 mm.
The work is shown on the brake mechanism of the right wheel.
Removing
1. We prepare the car for operations (see "Vehicle preparation for maintenance and repair").
2. Move the parking brake lever to the lower position.
3. Remove the rear wheel (see "Wheel - replacement").
4. Deep socket socket wrench on 7 mm (12 mm on early production cars) unscrew the two guide pins.
5. We apply a penetrating lubricant to the seating belt of the axle shaft.
6. Evenly turning the brake drum and striking with a hammer through a wooden block on the flange from the inside, we knock down the drum.
7. Remove the drum.
8. With the help of two mounting blades, leaning through the pads, we push the pistons into the cylinder.
9. Pressing on the cup of the support post, turn it until the notch of the cup is aligned with the shank of the post (while holding the rack on the back of the brake shield).
10. Remove two cups with a spring and a stand. Similarly, we remove the details of the support post from the other block.
11. Prying with a screwdriver, remove the lower coupling spring.
12. Remove the rear brake pad from the support and slide down.
13. Disconnect the tip of the rear parking brake cable from the parking brake expansion lever.
14. Remove the pads with the spacer bar and the upper coupling spring.
15. Disconnect the spacer bar and the coupling spring from the shoes.
16. Use pliers to remove the cotter pin from the axis of the spacer lever.
17. Remove the washer, lever and axle from the block.
Installation
1. Using sliding pliers, we shift the pistons of the working cylinder inward.
2. We install the removed parts of the parking brake drive on a new brake shoe in reverse order.
3. Orient the spacer bar with a double slot to the rear block.
4. After installing the brake drum, we sharply press the brake pedal several times so that the thrust rings in the wheel cylinder take their working position.
5. Similarly, we replace the pads on the opposite side of the car.
6. Adjust the parking brake (see "Parking brake - adjustment").
