- remove the car from the parking brake and loosen the wheel bolts;
- lift the wheel and remove it, then remove the brake drum, for which unscrew the guide pins, insert them into the technological holes of the drum and wrap until the drum separates. To facilitate this operation, it is recommended to apply the preparation into the gap between the seating belt of the hub and the drum «Unisma» in an aerosol package and hold for 10... 15 minutes;
- inspect the pads. If the thickness of the pads has decreased to 1.5 mm or the pads are damaged, replace them at the same time on both brake mechanisms. To replace the pads, disconnect the end of the cable from the lever 10 (see fig. 85), remove the cotter pin, press the pin 9 and remove the lever of the manual drive of the pads. Disconnect the upper 7 and lower 3 return springs and guide springs 5 with pliers, being careful. Then remove the brake pads and expansion bar 8;
- before installing new pads, drown the pistons of the wheel cylinder by lightly tapping the hammer through the wooden spacer on the piston stops;
- check the condition of the working surface of the drum. If deep risks have formed on it, ream and grind the drums, preventing their diameter from increasing above 201 mm;
- before installing the drum, lubricate the landing belt of the wheel hub with a thin layer of graphite grease;
- after assembling the brake mechanism, check the ease of rotation of the wheel; slight touching of the drum on the pads is allowed;
- press the brake pedal 2-3 times to set the pistons of the wheel cylinder to the working position and check the operation of the brakes while the vehicle is moving.
