Springs are replaced when they sag or are mechanically damaged. According to the length under the standard load of 325 kgf, springs are divided into two groups: A - length more than 278 mm and B - length equal to or less than 278 mm. Group A springs are marked with light brown paint, group B - blue. As a rule, when replacing, it is recommended to install group A springs, but in any case, both springs should be replaced simultaneously and new ones of the same group should be installed.
Removal
1. Place the vehicle on an inspection pit or overpass (see "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair").
2. Key by 10 mm we unscrew the nut that secures the pressure regulator drive rod to the rear axle bracket, holding the bolt with a wrench of the same size.
After removing the bolt, we disconnect the lower end of the rod from the bracket to allow the rear axle to move.
3. Key by 10 mm we unscrew the nut securing the brake pipe tee so as not to damage the brake hose when moving the rear axle down. On a car with high mileage, we pre-treat this connection with penetrating lubricant.
4. Remove the tee from the rear axle stud.
5. Disconnect the shock absorber from the rear axle bracket (see "Rear shock absorber - replacement").
6. We hang up the rear wheel on the side of the spring being replaced (see "Wheel - replacement").
7. Remove the spring.
8. Remove the lower plastic spring gasket.
9. Remove the upper rubber spring gasket from the body support cup.
10. Check the condition of both spring insulating gaskets and, if necessary, replace them with new ones.
Installation
1. Before installing the spring, we attach the upper and lower gaskets to it with insulating tape, ensuring that the end turns match the recesses in the gaskets.
2. When installing, orient the spring so that the end of its lower coil rests through the plastic gasket against the flange of the support cup on the rear axle beam.
We install the remaining parts in the reverse order of their removal.
We replace the spring on the other side of the car in the same way.
