Neutralizer

1 – ceramic block with catalysts

Toxic components of exhaust gases are hydrocarbons (unburned fuel), carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide. A three-way catalytic converter installed in the exhaust system just behind the exhaust pipe serves to convert these compounds into non-toxic ones.

The neutralizer contains ceramic elements with microchannels, on the surface of which catalysts are applied: two oxidizing and one reducing. Oxidizing catalysts (platinum and palladium) promote the conversion of hydrocarbons into water vapor and carbon monoxide into harmless carbon dioxide. The reducing catalyst (rhodium) accelerates the chemical reaction of reducing nitrogen oxides and converting them into harmless nitrogen.

For effective neutralization of toxic components and the most complete combustion of the air-fuel mixture, it is necessary that there be 1 part of air to 1 part of fuel.

Such precision dosing is ensured by an electronic fuel injection system, which continuously adjusts the fuel supply depending on engine operating conditions and the signal from the exhaust gas oxygen concentration sensor.

Warning! Do not operate the engine with a neutralizer on leaded gasoline. This will lead to rapid failure of the neutralizer and oxygen concentration sensor.
