Engine bench testing (VAZ-21051)

            0

The repaired engine is subjected to bench tests (running-in) without load according to the following cycle:

820–900 min⁻¹
2 min
1000 min⁻¹
3 min
1500 min⁻¹
4 min
2000 min⁻¹
5 min

During the break-in period of the repaired engine, do not operate it at maximum speed.

After installing on the stand and starting the engine, check the following:
  • there are no water or fuel leaks between mating parts, from pipe connections and through gaskets;
  • is there any oil leakage from under the oil filter sealing ring?;
  • oil pressure;
  • ignition setting;
  • idle speed;
  • are there any extraneous knocks?.

If any unusual knocking or malfunctions are detected, stop the engine, eliminate them, and then continue testing.

If oil leaks through the gasket between the cover and the cylinder head or through the gaskets between the engine oil pan, cylinder block and covers, tighten the mounting bolts to the recommended torque. If the oil leak does not stop, check that the gaskets are installed correctly and replace them if necessary.

Since the engine has not yet been run in after repair and the friction of the working surfaces of the new parts provides significant resistance to rotation, a certain running-in period is required.

This applies especially to those engines on which pistons, connecting rod and main bearings have been replaced, crankshaft journals have been reground, and cylinders have been honed. Therefore, engine running-in should always be completed on the vehicle, with the recommended driving speeds at the start of vehicle operation.
