Replacing the camshaft drive belt (VAZ-21051)

1. Remove fan drive belt 2 and upper protective cover 8 (see Fig. Camshaft Drive Diagram).

2. Turn the crankshaft and align the "C" mark on pulley 1 of the crankshaft with the "D" mark (TDC) on the middle protective cover 5, and the "F" mark on pulley 9 of the camshaft with the "E" mark on the cylinder head cover.

3. Remove the middle 5 and bottom 3 protective covers.

4. Remove spring 12, loosen bolts 6, move tension roller bracket 11 to the extreme left position and remove belt 10.

5. Place the new belt behind pulley 1, put it on toothed pulley 4 of the crankshaft and, while tensioning the belt, put it on pulley 13 of the oil pump drive shaft and on pulley 9 of the camshaft.

6. Place the belt on the tension roller 7, press the bracket 11 to the right and install the spring 12. Smoothly turn the crankshaft two revolutions, keeping the belt under constant tension and not loosening it when the shaft stops. Tighten the bolts 6.

7. Check that the "E", "F" marks match the "C", "D" marks. If the marks do not match, reinstall the belt.

8. Install protective covers 3, 5 and 8, put on the fan drive belt and tighten it.

9. Check and adjust the ignition timing if necessary.
