It is recommended to remove the steering wheel.
Note. If you do not intend to disassemble the steering column, then the steering column switches and the ignition switch can be left in place.
Note. If the ignition switch mounting bolts are cut off, it is more convenient to remove the switch on the removed column.
Steering shaft coupling: 1 - rivets; 2 - rubber bushings; 3 – a steering shaft; 4 - coupling flange
1. Remove the six screws securing the lower steering column cover.
2. Remove the lower casing of a steering column.
3. Remove the ignition switch cover.
4. Remove the upper casing of the steering column.
5. Loosen the bolt securing the base of the steering column switches.
6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the wiper/washer switch.
7. Remove the base of the switches from the steering shaft and disconnect the two pads with wires from the horn contacts.
8. Disconnect the wiring harness from the turn signal and headlight switch.
9. Disconnect the ignition switch wiring harness from the wiring harness.
10. Disconnect the wiring harness from the ignition relay.
11. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the "0". Remove the four mounting bolts and remove the bracket and ignition switch (see subsection 9.8.8.).
12. Loosen the steering shaft coupling flange pinch bolt.
13. Remove the two bolts and two nuts securing the steering column to the body bracket and remove the steering column. If the bracket is attached with shear bolts (like an ignition switch), then the bolts must be drilled out.
14. Remove the steering shaft from the steering column tube. Replace the steering shaft in the following cases:
- A) if the rubber bushings of the coupling are cracked, delaminated or have lost their elasticity;
- b) if the rivet connections are loose;
- V) if the splines are damaged or worn and (or) thread.
15. Check the junction of the bracket with the pipe. If there are cracks, replace the steering column tube.
16. Install the steering column in the reverse order of removal. Before installation, make sure that the flat on the steering gear shaft and the pinion bolt hole on the shaft match.
