Removal
1. Prepare the car for work and remove the terminal from the negative terminal of the battery (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the decorative steering column trims (see "Decorative steering column trims - removal and installation").
3. Remove the steering column switches together with the connector (see "Steering column switches - removal, inspection and installation").
4. Disconnect the ignition switch wiring harness connectors (see "Ignition switch (lock) - removal and installation").
5. With a socket wrench by 13 mm we unscrew the clamping bolt of the lower flange of the coupling.
6. Using a slotted screwdriver, loosen the coupling flange.
7. Using pliers or tongs, unscrew the bolt with a breakaway head securing the steering column bracket.
Tip: If you can't unscrew the bolt, you can loosen it with a narrow chisel. To do this, rest the chisel blade against the edge of the bolt head and lightly tap the chisel with a hammer. The chisel should not cut the bolt head, but only turn the bolt counterclockwise to loosen it.
8. Remove the bolt with the retaining plate placed on it.
9. Similarly, unscrew the second bolt with a breakaway head securing the steering column bracket.
10. Key by 13 mm we unscrew the two nuts securing the steering column bracket.
11. Lower the bracket down and, pulling it towards you, remove the coupling flange from the splines of the steering gear drive shaft.
Installation
1. There is a chamfer on the drive pinion shaft. We put the coupling flange on the steering gear drive pinion shaft in such a position that the slot in the coupling tip coincides with the central longitudinal line of the chamfer.
2. Wrap it up (without delay) coupling flange tightening bolt.
3. Place the steering column on the studs and tighten the bracket mounting nuts.
4. Wrap it up (without delaying completely) two special bolts with breakaway heads, having first installed fixing plates under the bolts.
Attention! To avoid compromising the safety properties of the steering column, do not install regular washers instead of special plates under the bolts with breakaway heads. The protruding part of the plate must be located in the bracket slot.
Note: If special breakaway head bolts are not available, 20mm long M6 bolts can be used.
5. Tighten the tightening bolt of the elastic coupling flange, two bolts (until the heads break off) and two steering column bracket mounting nuts.
6. Connect the ignition switch wire blocks (see "Ignition switch (lock) - removal and installation").
7. Install the steering column switches complete with connector on the steering column and connect the wiring blocks to the switches (see "Steering column switches - removal, inspection and installation").
8. Install the steering wheel (see "Steering wheel - removal and installation").
9. Install the decorative steering column trims (see "Decorative steering column trims - removal and installation").
10. Check the operation of the horn, switches and adjust the steering column angle.
