Replace pads in the following cases:
- the thickness of the friction linings is less than the permissible one;
- the surface of the pads is oiled;
- the friction lining is loosely connected to the base;
- there are deep grooves and chips on the overlays.
Warnings! Do not use gasoline, diesel fuel or any other mineral solvents to clean the brakes.
Replace the pads at the same time in the brake mechanisms of both rear wheels.
It is unacceptable to replace the front and rear pads with each other, as well as between the left and right wheels - this can lead to uneven braking.
You will need: keys «on 10», «at 12», beard, pliers.
1. Engage 1st gear and place chocks under the front wheels.
2. Make sure the parking brake lever is pushed all the way down (the car is disinhibited).
3. Remove the wheel and clean the brake mechanism from dirt.
4. If the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir is at «MAX» or approaches it, pump some of the fluid out of the tank. Otherwise, when replacing the pads, it may splash out.
5. Remove the brake drum (see «Brake drum replacement»).
6. Remove the upper return spring with a barb or pliers.
7. Remove the lower return spring in the same way.
8. Remove the front shoe guide spring and then the front shoe.
9. Remove expander bar.
10. Remove the rear shoe guide spring and then the rear shoe by disconnecting the actuating lever from the parking brake cable end.
11. Remove the cotter pin and remove the support washer from the rear shoe drive lever pin.
12. Press a finger and remove the driving lever from a block. Remove your finger from the block.
13. Install new pads in the reverse order of removal. When installing, insert the upper ends of the pads into the grooves of the piston.
14. Bring the brake pads together with two pry bars to move the pistons to the center of the cylinder.
15. Install the brake drum in the reverse order of removal.
16. With the car standing on the ground, press the brake pedal two or three times to bring the shoes to the drum.
