Repairing the water pump usually does not lead to the desired result, so it is recommended to replace the pump assembly.
1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «–» battery.
2. Drain the coolant (see «Coolant replacement»).
3. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC position (see «Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke»).
4. Remove the tension roller (see «Replacing the tension roller»).
Warning! After removing the camshaft drive belt, it is forbidden to turn the camshaft and crankshaft.
5. Remove the camshaft sprocket (see «Replacing the cylinder head gasket»).
6. Turn away a nut and turn out four bolts of fastening of a back cover of a drive of a camshaft.
7. Take aside the back cover and remove the water pump by prying it with a screwdriver on the toothed pulley.
8. Remove gasket from pump. Replace damaged gasket.
9. Replace water pump if coolant leaks out of drain hole (damaged pump seal) …
10.... there is a noticeable axial play of the pump shaft (damaged pump bearing) …
11.... cracks, chips, spalling were found on the impeller 1, toothed pulley 2 and pump housing 3.
12. Check tightness of pump bearing set screw. Tighten the screw if necessary.
13. Install the pump in the reverse order of removal. The number on the pump must point upwards.
14. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Install the camshaft pulley with the protruding part of the hub towards the engine.
15. After that, check the coincidence of the TDC marks on the camshaft pulley and the rear cover of the drive belt (see «Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke»).
16. Adjust the tension of the camshaft drive belt (see «Replacing the camshaft drive belt and adjusting the belt tension») and fill with coolant (see «Coolant replacement»).
