Checking the oil level in the gearbox housing (VAZ-1111)

The oil level indicator is located on the left side of the engine compartment on the rear cover of the gearbox (spare tire removed for clarity).

You will need: Transmission oil, funnel, clean rag.

Before starting work: Place the vehicle on a horizontal, level surface.

Warnings:
  • Check the oil level only when the gearbox is cold.
  • Transmission oils for the gearbox recommended by the manufacturer are listed in Appendix 2.

The optimum oil level is the upper mark on the oil level indicator. Do not fill the oil above the upper mark, as it may leak from the gearbox. The lower mark indicates the minimum permissible oil level. The gearbox will quickly fail if it operates with an oil level below this mark.
