Before starting work: Place the vehicle on a horizontal, level surface.
Caution! Warnings Check the oil level only when the gearbox is cold.
Attention! Transmission oils for the gearbox recommended by the manufacturer are listed in Appendix 2.
The optimum oil level is the upper mark on the oil level indicator. Do not fill the oil above the upper mark, as it may leak from the gearbox. The lower mark indicates the minimum permissible oil level. The gearbox will quickly fail if it operates with an oil level below this mark.
The oil level indicator is located on the left side of the engine compartment on the rear cover of the gearbox (spare tire removed for clarity).
1. Unfasten the elastic strap from the spare tire.
2. Loosen the spare wheel mounting screw and...
3....remove the screw and washer.
4. Remove the spare tire from the engine compartment.
5. Remove the oil level indicator from the transmission.

6. Wipe the pointer with a clean cloth.
7. Insert the pointer into place until it stops and remove it again. The oil level, determined by the oil film, should be between the upper 1 and lower 2 marks on the pointer.
8. If the oil level is close to or below the lower mark, add oil through the hole under the indicator to the maximum oil level mark. Insert the indicator into place.
