- gear oil
- funnel
- clean rag
Before starting work: Park the vehicle on a level, level ground.
Attention! Warnings Check the oil level only on a cold gearbox.
Attention! Gearbox oils recommended by the manufacturer are listed in Appendix 2.
The optimum oil level is the upper mark on the oil level indicator. Do not fill the oil above the upper mark, as it may leak from the gearbox. The lower mark indicates the minimum allowable oil level. The gearbox will quickly fail if it is operated with an oil level below this mark.
The oil level indicator is located on the left side of the engine compartment on the rear cover of the gearbox (Spare wheel removed for clarity).
1. Unfasten the elastic strap from the spare wheel.
2. Loosen the spare wheel bolt and...
3....remove the screw with washer.
4. Remove the spare wheel from the engine compartment.
5. Remove the oil level indicator from the gearbox.
6. Wipe the pointer with a clean cloth.
7. Insert the pointer into place until it stops and remove it again. The oil level, determined by the oil film, must be between the top 1 and bottom 2 marks on the pointer.
8. If the oil level approaches or falls below the lower mark, add oil through the gauge hole to the maximum oil level mark. Insert pointer in place.
