The main gear is hypoid. The driving gear 29 (Fig. 128) and the driven gear 19 are paired for noise and contact, so they are supplied as spare parts and are replaced in pairs. Between the inner rings of the bearings 23 of the driving gear there is a spacer sleeve 22, which, deforming when the nut of the driving gear is tightened to a certain torque, provides a preliminary tension in the bearings 23. Between the end of the driving gear and the inner bearing there is an adjusting ring 21, determining the correct position of the driving gear relative to the driven gear.

The driven gear of the main transmission is attached to the flange of the differential box 32 and rotates together with it on two bearings 15. The preliminary tension in these bearings, as well as the gap between the teeth of the driving and driven gears, is adjusted by nuts 14, screwed into the detachable bearing beds. The half-axle gears 20 are installed in cylindrical sockets of the differential box and rest on the box through support washers 31. By selecting washers by thickness, a gap of 0.0-0.1 mm is set between the teeth of the satellites and half-axle gears.

The axle shaft 1 enters the splined hole of the axle gear with its inner end, and rests with its outer end on the ball bearing 6, which is secured to the axle shaft with a locking ring 7. The axle shaft bearing is sealed in the axle beam socket on the inner side with a self-tightening seal 9, and on the outer side with a rubber ring. The bearing is secured in the beam socket with a plate 11, which, together with the oil deflector and brake shield, is fastened with four bolts to the beam flange.
