Removal and installation
1. Remove the cotter pins and unscrew the nuts that secure the ball joints of the lateral rods to the steering arms.
2. With puller A.47052 (see fig. Removing the ball joints of the steering linkage rods) remove the ball joints from the conical sockets on the levers.
3. Remove the cotter pins and unscrew the nuts securing the ball joints of the middle and side rods to the pitman arm and to the pendulum lever. Using the A.47035 puller, remove the pins from the corresponding sockets on the levers and remove the rods.
4. Install the steering linkage in the reverse order of removal. Tighten all the ball joint nuts with a torque wrench and then cotter pin them. If the nut cutout does not match the cotter pin hole, turn the nut by an angle less than 600 to ensure cotter pinning.
5. After installing the rods, adjust the front wheel alignment.
Checking and repair
1. Check the condition of the protective caps 2 (see fig. Cross-section of the tie rod ball joint), as described in subsection 7.2.2. Damaged ones – replace.
2. Check the condition of the ball joints of the rods for radial and axial clearance. If you feel free play in the ball joint, or if dirt or sand gets into the joint, or if corrosion appears on the ball pin, or if the travel of the support insert is fully used, replace the joint with the rod end.
