Steering parts
1 - steering gear housing; 2 - shaft seal; 3 - intermediate shaft; 4 - upper shaft; 5 - fixing plate of the front part of the bracket; 6 – an arm of fastening of a shaft of a steering; 7 - the upper part of the facing casing; 8 - bearing sleeve; 9 - needle bearing; 10 - steering wheel; 11 - the lower part of the facing casing; 12 - bracket fastening details
Installation of the steering mechanism on the car
1 – bolts of fastening of a case of the steering mechanism; 2 - coupling bolt of the lower end of the intermediate shaft; 3 – bolts of fastening of an arm; 4 – an arm of a shaft of a steering;
27.5 mm - distance from the center of the bipod hole to the bearing surface of the steering gear housing with the bipod in the middle position
Removing
1. Disconnect the wires from the battery and remove the signal switch cover.
2. Remove the steering wheel. Remove both halves of a facing casing of a shaft of a steering.
Attention! If it is necessary to remove only the steering gear housing, unscrew the bracket mounting bolts and the bolt securing the steering shaft to the worm shaft and the crankcase mounting bolts to the body side member.
3. Remove the instrument panel and disconnect the turn signal and headlight switch connectors from the wiring harness connectors.
4. Disconnect the wires from the ignition switch terminals and, having unscrewed the mounting screws and drowned the lock latch, remove the ignition switch. Loosen the clamp securing the turn signal, headlight and wiper switch housing and remove it.
5. Loosen the bracket mounting bolts 6 (see pic. Steering parts) and remove the steering shaft with bracket.
6. Unscrew the nuts securing the ball pins of the side and middle rods to the bipod, and then press the ball pins out of the holes in the bipod with a puller A.47035.
7. Remove the steering gear housing by first unscrewing the bolts of its fastening to the body side member. Loosen the screws securing the steering shaft seal and remove it.
Installation
1. Having fixed the sealant 2 on the front panel (see pic. Steering parts), install the steering gear housing on the side member, without fully tightening the nuts of the housing mounting bolts.
2. Use a special device to orient the crankcase so that the angle a (see fig. Installation of the steering mechanism on the car) did not exceed 320, and the gap between the shaft and the brake pedal was at least 5 mm. Then fully tighten the crankcase bolt nuts.
3. Set the bipod of the steering mechanism to the middle position, for which align the marks on the crankcase and on the worm shaft (see fig. Section of the crankcase of the steering mechanism).
4. Temporarily install the wheel on the shaft so that the spokes are horizontal and in this position connect the universal joint yoke of the intermediate shaft of the steering mechanism with the worm shaft, then attach the steering shaft bracket to the body.
5. Remove a steering wheel and put on a steering shaft the switch of indexes of turn, light of headlights and screen wipers.
Establish a steering wheel on a shaft in an initial position and, pressing a steering wheel, as it is shown by arrows in fig. Installing the steering gear on the car, check that the shaft does not move radially. For radial movement, replace the upper steering shaft or its bearings.
6. Check that the steering wheel rotates smoothly and freely in both directions, then tighten the steering wheel nut and tighten it at three points. Slide the turn signal, headlight and wiper switch housing towards the steering wheel until it stops and tighten the switch mounting clamp.
7. Connect the wires to the ignition switch terminals and screw the switch to the steering shaft bracket.
8. Connect the turn signal, headlight, and wiper switch connectors to the vehicle harness connectors.
9. Mount the two halves of the cladding on the shaft and fasten them with screws. Install the horn switch on the steering wheel.
10. Install the middle and side left-hand ball pins on the bipod and secure them with nuts.
11. Adjust the toe of the front wheels and check the force on the steering wheel, which, when turning the wheels in place on a smooth plate, should not exceed 196 N (20 kgf) (when measured on the wheel rim).
Attention! You can separately assemble the steering shaft with seal, bracket, ignition switch, turn signal and headlight switch, steering wheel and install this assembly on the car.
12. To mount the assembly, position the steering wheel spokes horizontally and connect the worm shaft to the lower end of the intermediate steering shaft.
13. Having incompletely tightened the bracket fasteners, turn the steering wheel several times in both directions, then tighten the bracket fastening bolts.
