Warning! Be sure to replace the torn ball joint protective boot, otherwise dirt and water that gets into the joint will quickly put it out of order. You can replace the boot without removing the tip from the rod.
Bent inner tie rod ends must be replaced.
You will need: keys "19", "17", screwdriver.
1. Apply the parking brake and place chocks under the rear wheels.
2. Raise the appropriate wheel, place the vehicle on a support and remove the wheel.
3. Clean the tie rod end to steering arm mounting nut and apply WD-40 type liquid to the threaded connection to make it easier to loosen the nut.
4. Remove the cotter pin from the nut securing the ball joint of the steering rod to the steering arm.
5. Unscrew the nut securing the ball joint of the steering rod.
6. Using a puller, press the ball joint pin of the steering rod out of the steering column pivot arm.
7. Loosen the bolts securing both steering rods to the steering gear by bending back the ends of the locking plate with a screwdriver.
8. Loosen both bolts and remove the bolt securing the steering rod to be removed.
9. Rotate the coupling plate so that the rod can be disconnected from the steering gear…
10. …and remove the steering rod.
11. Clamp the steering rod in a vice by the hexagon on the coupling sleeve. Loosen the lock nut securing the tip.
12. Unscrew the tip, counting the number of turns. Write down this number. Screw in the new tip the same number of turns as when unscrewing.
13. To replace the protective cover, remove its sealing…
14. …and spring rings.
15. Remove the protective cover.
16. Remove the top dirty layer of grease (if it is noticeable that dirt has gotten inside the hinge, then such a hinge will have to be replaced) and apply new grease.
17. Fill the new cover with consistent grease up to half of its volume and install it on the hinge, pushing the edge of the cover onto the seat on the hinge body until it stops.
18. Install the spring and sealing rings.
19. Check that the rings are installed correctly and that the cap edges fit tightly.
20. Install the steering rod in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the steering rod mounting bolts to a torque of 70–86 N·m (7.8–8.6 kgf·m). Then lock the bolts by bending the edges of the locking plate.
21. Adjust the wheel alignment angles (see "Checking and adjusting wheel alignment angles").
