Warning! Be sure to replace the torn protective cover of the ball joint, otherwise dirt and water that have entered the joint will quickly disable it. You can replace the cover without removing the tip from the rod.
Bent inner tie rod ends must be replaced.
You will need: keys «at 19», «17», screwdriver.
1. Brake the vehicle with the parking brake and place chocks under the rear wheels.
2. Hang the appropriate wheel, put the car on a support and remove the wheel.
3. Clean the tie rod-to-swivel arm nut and apply WD-40 to the threaded joint to loosen the nut more easily.
4. Remove the cotter pin of the nut that secures the tie rod ball joint to the swing arm.
5. Turn away a nut of fastening of the spherical hinge of steering draft.
6. Using a puller, press the tie rod ball joint pin out of the rack pivot arm.
7. Loosen the bolts securing both steering rods to the steering mechanism by bending the ends of the lock plate with a screwdriver.
8. Loosen the tightening of both bolts and turn out the bolt of fastening of the removed steering draft.
9. Turn the connecting plate so that you can disconnect the rod from the steering gear..
10.... and remove the tie rod.
11. Clamp the steering rod in a vise for the hexagon on the coupling. Loosen the tip locknut.
12. Unscrew the tip, counting the number of turns. Write down this number. Screw in the new tip by the same number of turns as when unscrewing.
13. To replace the protective cover, remove its sealing..
14.... and a spring ring.
15. Remove the protective cover.
16. Remove the top dirty layer of grease (if it is noticeable that dirt has got inside the hinge, then such a hinge will have to be replaced) and apply new grease.
17. Lay in a new boot half its volume of grease and install it on the hinge, putting the edge of the boot on the seat on the hinge body until it stops.
18. Install spring and o-rings.
19. Check up correctness of installation of rings and tightness of adjoining of edges of a cap.
20. Establish steering draft in an order, the return to removal. Bolts of fastening of steering drafts to the steering mechanism wrap the moment 70–86 Nm (7.8–8.6 kgf·m). After that, lock the bolts by bending the edges of the lock plate.
21. Adjust wheel alignment (see «Checking and adjusting wheel alignment»).
