Pic. 37. Checking the tension of the alternator drive belt:
A - deflection; 1 - nut; 2 - a nut of a finger of a hinged fastening of the generator; 3 - generator; 4 - thermostat; 5 - water pump.
Alternator drive belt
Every 10,000 km run, and on a new car after running the first 2000-3000 km, check the belt tension. normal deflection «A» (pic. 37) should be within 10-15 mm with a force of 100 N (10 kgf).
To increase belt tension:
- release the nut 1 that secures the generator 3 to the tension bar;
- release the nut 2 of the generator pivot pin;
- move the generator 3 away from the engine and tighten the fastening nuts.
Avoid over-tensioning the belt so as not to cause an increase in the loads acting on the bearings of the generator 3 and the water pump 5.
