Cooling system thermostat (VAZ-2107)

Every 20,000 km of mileage, and also in case of violation of the engine thermal regime (overheating under normal operating conditions or prolonged warm-up after start-up) check the operation of thermostat 4 (Fig. 37) of the cooling system. The simplest check can be carried out by touch directly on the car. After starting a cold engine with a working thermostat, the lower tank of the radiator begins to heat up when the pointer of the liquid temperature indicator in the engine cooling system is at a distance of 3-4 mm from the red zone of the scale, which corresponds to approximately 90°C.

Generator drive belt

Every 10,000 km mileage, and on a new car after the first 2000-3000 km, check the belt tension. Normal deflection "A" (Fig. 37) should be within 10-15 mm at a force of 100 N (10 kgf).

To increase belt tension:

• loosen nut 1, which secures generator 3 to the tension bar;
• loosen the nut 2 of the generator hinge pin;
• move generator 3 away from the engine and tighten the mounting nuts.

Avoid excessive belt tension to avoid increasing the loads acting on the bearings of generator 3 and water pump 5.
