1. Disconnect the wires from the terminal «–» battery.
2. Remove the steering wheel (see «Removal and installation of a steering wheel»).
3. Remove the steering column trim (see «Removal and installation of facings of a steering column»).
4. Remove the ignition switch (see «Removal and installation of the ignition switch»).
5. Remove paddle shifters (see «Checking and replacing steering column switches»).
6. Turn out a coupling bolt of a connecting flange of the coupling of an intermediate shaft of a steering column.
7. Turn out a bolt of the left forward fastening of a steering column to a body.
8. Similarly turn out the right forward bolt of fastening of a steering column to a body.
9. Turn away a nut of the left back fastening of a steering column to a body.
10. Similarly turn away a nut of the right back fastening of a steering column to a body.
11. For ease of use, install the steering wheel, hand-tighten the nut securing the steering wheel to the shaft..
12.... and remove the steering column from the steering gear splines.
13. Remove the nut of the bolt of the terminal connection of the intermediate and steering shafts of the steering column..
14.... and remove the intermediate shaft from the splines of the steering shaft.
15. Press out from a pipe of an arm a shaft of a steering column together with the bearing.
16. Replace steering column shafts if splines or threads are worn or damaged.
17. Remove the front (steering wheel side) bearing.
18. With light blows of a hammer, using a drift, press the rear bearing out of the steering bracket tube.
19. Before installing the bearings, check that they rotate easily, without jamming. The plastic bearing bushes must not be damaged.
20. Press the rear bearing all the way into the pipe shoulder using a suitable mandrel, applying pressure only to the bearing outer race. The bearing is mounted on a plastic sleeve, which has a wide flange on one side. When installing the bearing, it is the wide flange of the sleeve that must be directed outward.
21. Slide the front bearing onto the shaft so that the wide flange of the bearing sleeve points towards the end of the shaft.
22. Insert the shaft into the tube - the rear end of the shaft should fit into the rear bearing.
23. Press the front bearing all the way into the pipe collar using a suitable drift, applying pressure only to the outer race of the bearing.
24. If the steering column does not lock in the selected position..
25.... remove the retaining ring..
26.... then remove the lever from the splines of the adjusting sleeve and rearrange it to the desired position.
27. If the steering column does not move to the top position when the steering column adjustment lever is turned down, check the release springs. Replace stretched or broken springs.
28. Establish a steering column in an order, the return to removal.
