2. From inside the passenger compartment, unscrew the bolt securing the intermediate shaft of the steering column to the shaft of the drive gear of the steering mechanism (see «Removal, installation and dismantling of a steering column»).
3. Disconnect both tie rods from the swing arms (see «Replacing the tie rod, outer tie rod end and ball joint boot»).
4. Screw the rod mounting bolt into the mechanism so that the rail does not move.
5. Turn away on two nuts of fastening of the mechanism of a steering from both parties and disconnect a shaft of a driving gear wheel of the mechanism from a steering shaft.
6. Take out the steering mechanism through an aperture under steering draft in a niche of the right wheel.
7. Replace torn, cracked, or loose cushions and protective cover.
Note. The protective cover can be replaced without removing the steering mechanism from the vehicle.
Helpful advice. To facilitate the installation of rubber pads, moisten them with soapy water.
8. To replace the protective cover, bite through the plastic clamps (they are disposable).
9. Establish the steering mechanism upside-down. Set the rail to the middle position (corresponding to the rectilinear movement of the car), i.e. the marks on the anther and crankcase should match, and the flat on the gear shaft should be on the right. If the gear turned, then slide the rack to one side until it stops. Then move the rack to the other side one full turn of the mark on the boot and bring the mark to coincide with the mark on the mechanism case.
10. After installation, do not forget to lock the rod mounting bolts by bending the ends of the lock plate.
11. After completing all installation work, check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment (see «Checking and adjusting the angles of the front wheels»).
