Checking the steering wheel play (VAZ-1111)

You will need: A ruler, wire or chalk.

The steering wheel play should not exceed 5°.

Markings on the steering wheel can be made with chalk instead of wire.

Warning: If the front wheels are set to the straight-ahead position and the steering wheel hub is at an angle, there is a fault in the steering system. Contact a specialist to fix it.


The wheel rim clearance is specified for a standard steering wheel with a diameter of 360 mm. If the vehicle is equipped with a steering wheel of a different diameter, the clearance can be calculated using the formula:


where L is the steering wheel play, mm;
D — steering wheel diameter, mm;
π = 3,14.
