Checking the condition of the steering (VAZ-1111)

Warnings:

• Regularly check the condition of the steering system, which determines driving safety.
• When inspecting the steering, pay special attention to the condition of the protective covers, caps and threaded connections.
• Be sure to replace covers and caps that are torn, cracked, or have lost elasticity, otherwise water, dust, and dirt that gets into the components will quickly put them out of order.
• Loose threaded connections must be tightened and securely locked if provided for by the design.
• If play is detected in the ball joint of the steering rod, replace the steering rod end assembly with the joint.
• To identify the causes and eliminate any defects found, contact specialists.

Check the condition of the steering gear protective boots. Replace any torn, cracked or loose boots.



Check the condition of the ball joint protective caps of the steering rods. Replace caps that are torn, cracked or have lost elasticity.





Check the fit (tightness) protective caps of the ball joints. To do this, squeeze the cap with your fingers. If grease comes out, replace the defective cap.



By turning the steering wheel sharply in both directions (an assistant should do this), check the steering gear mount visually and audibly (movement of the mechanism on the mounting pins and knocking are not allowed)...

Under the instrument panel, check the play in the splined joints of the cardan joints of the intermediate shaft of the steering column (it is necessary to remove the steering column cover).
