The VAZ-2101, VAZ-2102 cars and their modifications have a classic layout, i.e. front engine and rear drive wheels. With this layout, the transmission includes a clutch, gearbox, cardan transmission, main gear, differential and axle shafts.
The transmission of the VAZ-21011 and VAZ-21013 cars is completely unified with the transmission of the base model VAZ-2101. In the VAZ-2102 and VAZ-21021 cars, the number of teeth on the main gear pinions has been changed compared to the VAZ-2101 to provide a gear ratio of 4.44. Until April 1978, the VAZ-2101 and VAZ-2102 cars were equipped with gearbox covers without a reversing light switch.
