Suspension
Front suspension: Independent, with telescopic, hydraulic shock-absorbing struts, with helical cylindrical springs, lower wishbones with tripwires and a stabilizer bar.
Rear suspension: Independent, with coil springs, double-acting hydraulic shock absorbers and longitudinal arms elastically connected by a cross beam.
Wheels and tires
Wheels: Disc, with deep rim 4½J—13. Wheel hub bearings are not lubricated or adjusted during operation.
Tires: Radial, low-profile 155/80R13, 165/70R13, 175/70R13.
Steering
Steering: Trauma-safe.
Steering mechanism type: Pinion - rack.
Steering gear: Two rods with rubber-metal joints on the steering gear side and ball joints on the steering arm side.
Brakes
Front: Disc, with movable calipers and automatic adjustment of the gap between the discs and pads.
Rear: Drum, with self-aligning pads and automatic adjustment of the gap between the pads and the drum.
Service brake drive: Hydraulic, dual-circuit, with diagonal circuit separation, with vacuum booster and pressure regulator.
Parking brake: Manual, with cable drive to the brake pads of the rear wheels.
Electrical equipment
Wiring system: Single-wire, negative pole of current sources connected to ground. Nominal voltage 12 V.
Battery: Capacity 55 Ah at 20-hour discharge mode.
Generator: Alternating current, with built-in rectifier on silicon diodes and electronic voltage regulator. Output current 55 A at 5000 rpm.
Starter: Power 1.3 kW, with electromagnetic engagement and freewheel clutch.
Ignition distributor sensor: With centrifugal and vacuum ignition advance regulators, with a contactless control pulse sensor.
Spark plugs: With air spark gap.
Ignition coil: Open-circuit, sealed, oil-filled.
Ignition switch: With anti-theft device and with lock against restarting the starter.
Exterior lighting: Headlights: headlights with halogen lamps, with hydraulic corrector4 and headlight cleaner4; side lights and direction indicators. Side direction indicators. Rear lights: side lights and fog lights, brake light, reversing light and reflectors. License plate lights.
Windscreen wiper: Electric with two brushes. Has three operating modes - two constant (at different speeds) and one intermittent.
Rear window cleaner4: Electric, single-mode, with one brush.
Windscreen, rear window and headlight washer4: General gear pump with electric drive and electromagnetic valves in the lines supplying liquid to the glass.
Instrument cluster: Voltmeter, economy meter, coolant temperature gauge, fuel gauge with reserve indicator lamp, speedometer, indicator lamps: side and fog lights, high beam headlights, direction indicators, rear window heating, oil pressure, hazard warning lights, brake fluid and parking brake level, carburetor air damper, battery discharge.
Body
Type and design: Load-bearing type, 3-door (for VAZ-2108, -21081, -21083) or 5-door (for VAZ-2109, VAZ-21093). The front fenders are removable.
Doors: Front hinged. Side door locks (front on VAZ-2109, VAZ-21093) can be locked from the outside with a key and from the inside by pressing the lock switch button. Rear side door locks (for VAZ-2109, VAZ-21093) are locked from the inside with a button and can be blocked against opening the lock from the inside. The tailgate has two gas-filled stops and electrically heated glass.
Front seats: Separate, with height-adjustable headrests, with adjustable backrest angle. Can be moved forward and backward for comfortable seating of the driver and passengers. On the VAZ-2108, -21081 and -21083, the backrests of the front seats fold forward to allow passengers to sit in the back seat.
Rear seat: Can be folded to increase luggage space.
Ventilation and heating: It is carried out by air sucked in from outside. An electric fan is installed to enhance air circulation. The heating system is included in the engine cooling system. Air is distributed by an air duct located under the instrument panel. There is an exhaust ventilation through openings located behind the central pillar trims of the body (VAZ-2108, -21081 and -21083) or at the rear of the side windows (VAZ-2109, -21093).
