Gearbox oil change (VAZ-21099)

The oil change frequency is every 75,000 km or after 5 years.

Gearbox housing capacity:

• five-speed – 3.3 l;
• four-speed – 3.0 l.

The manufacturer recommends using the following oil brands:

• "REXOL-T" (80W-85; GL-4);
• "OMSKoil Trans P" (80W-85; GL-4/5);
• "VOLNEZ TM4" (80W-90; GL-4).

It is recommended to drain the oil immediately after driving, while the gearbox is still warm.



Always keep the oil level close to the upper mark, but it should not exceed the upper mark, otherwise the oil may leak from the gearbox. The lower mark indicates the minimum permissible oil level. If the oil level drops below this mark, the gears will not be sufficiently lubricated and the gearbox will quickly fail.





1. Before changing the oil, remove the rubber cap, wash it and clean the hole in the breather with a wire. Then put the cap back in place.



2. Unscrew the oil drain plug, having first placed a container under the gearbox to collect the drained oil. Drain the oil and screw in the oil drain plug.



3. Remove the oil level indicator (dipstick).




4. Pour new oil through the dipstick hole using a funnel.



5. Wipe the pointer with a cloth and put it back in place.



6. Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level in the gearbox. If necessary, add oil to the gearbox up to the upper mark.



7. On earlier gearboxes (without oil dipstick) the oil filler neck is located above the oil drain plug.



8. Unscrew the plug and fill the gearbox with oil using a syringe up to the lower edge of the oil filler hole.
