Helpful advice. It is better to change the oil in the gearbox on a car immediately after a trip, while it is hot, so the oil drains faster and more completely along with suspended particles that have formed in the gearbox during operation.
Warning. The temperature of the heated oil in the gearbox can reach 90°C, be careful and careful!
To perform work on changing the oil in the gearbox, you will need:
- viewing hole or flyover;
- wide capacity of at least 4 liters;
- funnel or special syringe.
Work sequence
1. We prepare the car for repair work (see paragraphs 1 and 2b, "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. We install a container under the drain hole of the gearbox housing.
3. With a 17 mm key, unscrew the drain plug from the gearbox and drain the oil.
Note. The gearbox drain plug can be accessed through a hole in the engine guard. It should be noted that at the initial moment of draining the oil, the jet will hit the upper surface of the engine protection and spread over it. To avoid oil spills, you can bend the edge of the engine protection up (opposite the drain hole or remove the engine protection from the vehicle).
4. Drain the oil from the gearbox.
5. After waiting for the oil to completely drain from the gearbox, we wrap the plug in place.
Helpful advice. If the oil drained from the gearbox is dark in color and metal particles are visible in it, the gearbox should be flushed. To do this, pour 1-1.5 liters of special flushing oil into the gearbox housing. With one of the drive wheels out of the way, start the engine and engage first gear. After 5-7 minutes, turn off the engine, drain the flushing oil and fill the gearbox with clean transmission oil.
6. We take out the measuring probe (see point 1 "Gearbox - oil level check").
7. We wipe the dipstick, removing oil from it.
8. Through the hole of the measuring probe with a syringe...
... or through a funnel, with a tube put on it, pour 3.3 liters of clean gear oil into the gearbox.
The oil level in the box is controlled by the dipstick.
9. Install the dipstick in place.
