Helpful advice. When replacing one of the parking brake cables, the other cable must be replaced.
Removing
1. We prepare the car for work on replacing the parking brake cable (see paragraphs 2b and 4 "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the rear brake drums (see "Brake drum - removal and installation").
3. Remove the suspension dampers from the additional muffler.
4. We loosen the tightening of the locknut of the adjusting nut of the stroke of the parking brake lever (see point 3 "Checking and adjusting the hand brake").
Warning. The left rear handbrake cable goes through the right bracket hole, and the right wheel handbrake cable goes through the left bracket hole.
5. With a socket wrench with a deep head of 13 mm and a cardan joint, unscrew the lock nut and adjusting nut and remove them from the hand brake rod.
6. Remove the handbrake cable equalizer from the adjusting rod.
7. Disconnect the tips of the handbrake cables from the equalizer.
8. With a large slotted screwdriver, move the handbrake lever forward and remove the cable earring from the hook of the spacer lever.
9. Using a 10 mm spanner, unscrew the nut of the bracket for attaching the handbrake cable to the rear axle lever.
10. We remove the front tip of the handbrake cable from the hole in the body bracket.
11. We take out the handbrake cable from the bracket for attaching it to the body.
12. We remove the handbrake cable from the hole in the rear brake support shield and remove it from the car.
In the same way, remove the second parking brake cable.
Installation
We install the handbrake cable and all removed parts on the car in the reverse order of removal.
After installing the brake drums, adjust the stroke of the handbrake lever (see "Checking and adjusting the hand brake").
